You might have noticed, this is my first review of a DVD that teaches more than 1 or 2 effects. I review DVD's like this one a bit differently. They do not get a number assigned to them. Just my honest opinions on each effect taught, the teaching style, and the overall effectiveness of the DVD (How easily I learned from it.)
Heckler: By Brian Tudor
Effect list:
Deck Production
Card Switch
Wrong Answer
Card Under Drink
Tudor's Card Through Glass
Terry LaGerould's Card Through Table
Deck Through Table
Tudor's Kick-Out
Card-To-Mouth
Card to Shirt Pocket
Card to Zipper Pocket
Card to Right Pants Pocket 2x
Card to Left Pants Pocket
Terry LaGerould's Card to Back Pocket
Deck Vanish
Card to Matchbox
Effect Breakdown:
Deck Production: Lameola. Just take out the deck of cards, danggit. Doesn't really have a "magical" presence about the move.
Card Switch: An awesome way to get into a DL situation, and a switch that catches any heckler off guard.
Wrong Answer: Sweet, an answer for those people who think they know it all, from watching the David Blaine Street Magic Specials. Fooled me, and will fool the Heckler before they can say "It's on the top."
Card Under Drink: Difficult to do nicely, but man it is beautiful.
Tudor's Card Through Glass: I often skip "Card under Drink" and move straight to this. Even works with transparent glasses.
Terry LaGerould's Card Through Table: Easiest "Through Table" Effect I've come across.
Deck Through Table: Angles are a toughie with crowds, but using this after "Card through Table" is a 1-2 punch that knocks the logic right out of their head!
Tudor's Kick-Out : Tudor's take on the Hotshot Cut. I usually don't bother with it (I use the Potshot, a creation of my own.... I think. ) , but it's nice to know you have options.
Card-To-Mouth: BOO YEAH! A CARD TO MOUTH WITHOUT FOLDING THE CARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Card to Shirt Pocket: This is so easy, I laughed when I learned the method. This is the easiest, most convincing way to send a card to a breast pocket.
Card to Zipper Pocket : Using only your Forefinger and thumb, pull the signed card from your crotch. BURN!
Card to Right Pants Pocket 2x: Classical Style Card to pocket.
Card to Left Pants Pocket: By now, you've done so many "Card to ____________ " effects, their head is spinning.
Terry LaGerould's Card to Back Pocket: Holy crap, another card to pocket.
Deck Vanish: And the Deck Vanished Too! I actually like this one, it isn't easy to figure out, and is fun to do.
Card to Matchbox: And to finish them off, a super convincing card to Matchbox. Ending with a signed card bent into 6 parts.
Terry LaGeroulds Card Flick: The Color change that won my heart, is taught on this DVD. With a blank card and your middle finger, you literally PRINT the specs signature back onto their card! (Does not require blank card, but is cool to use.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Audio / Video Quality: The audio is scripted, as we all know how well Brian does when he tries to explain on the fly. It would have been a trainwreck in slowmotion without the scripting. No filler, just instruction. Repeated slowmotion shots of key palming techniques make sure you go into the Heckler world prepared to bust heads.
The Good: Unpredictable, heavy hitting, and can be done as a routine if need be.
The Bad: If shy away from tricks that use palming, run away quickly. "Card to shirt Pocket" is the only trick that does not use palming in some form. Otherwise, you're set.
Overall: I suggest you keep these moves in a drawer marked "Extreme Conditions." Do your regular cardwork, and break out a few of the moves here and there, so they can be appreciated in their entirety. Speed kills magic, so slow it down, and emphasise smoothness of movement.
