I was shopping for new shoes in the shoe store the other day, and I had a brainstorm. It's an idea - whether new or not, I don't know - for a way of either tearing, burning or disfiguring in any other way ;D a selected card, then making a magic gesture towards the card box that the spectator has held at all times, and finding the card in the box. I was going over the Cradle to Grave routine (De'vo) and the idea of the cards starting in the box and ending in the box. It's just a trick with one card, instead of xcm (xtreme card manipulation) with a full deck.
Method:
The idea is really very simple, because it utilizes a form of a double card. I only just thought it up, so the method and presentation will need a lot of pruning and sheering.
1. Have any card selected and signed (if you want it to be - not strictly necessary).
2. As they're signing it, stand back a little and turn the top card over secretly on your leg (or any other method). Then when they give you the card, add it onto the card you turned over on your leg so your double card is there.
3. Hold up the double squared, then start your patter. "There is always more than one way to do anything. Most people seem to know that. But I'm going to show you a rather unusual example. Take this card that you signed, for instance [hold the double card up for everyone to see]. If I wish to place it inside the empty card box that Carol is holding, there is more than one way to do that. First, the easy way. I could place it in like this, with the flap open [push the double into the box]. But the harder way is to try to do it with the flap closed [as you take out the double, leave the selection and just take out the other card of the two]. If you want to do that, you must resort to magic [quickly close the flap, leaving the selection in the box].
4. "Now, if I really want to go out on a limb, I can rip your card into tiny little pieces (change the patter for what you're going to do with the card i.e. tear, shuffle into deck, burn with a lighter, etc. etc.) so that nobody can bring it back. Now remember, I have never taken the box from Carol since the start of this experiment. Right Carol?"
5. As she says yes, hover your hand over the box that she's holding. Just take it away after a moment, and point, as if beckoning her to open the flap and take out the contents. Take your bows.
Sooooooo..... what do y'all think? Is it good, has it been done like that before? I wanna hear from the magishers.
